Project Overview

Honda Power Equipment were looking to transform their existing catalogue site to an e-commerce site to improve usability and drive sales.

My Contribution

I was responsible for crafting UI design states as high fidelity prototypes to convey the user journey. Through this process, I ensured that all design elements adhered to Honda’s strict style guidelines as well as accessibility standards. I was also involved in the handover and communication with our offshore developers during both the implementation and QA stages.

Challenges

Honda faced confusion and customer complaints about their online presence, as users struggled to navigate and understand their catalogue site. Through qualitative research, they found that their older customer base was frustrated by the lack of shoppable products on the site.

Design Outcome

To allow users to comprehend which products are available for direct purchase on site, I added ‘add to cart’ CTA buttons as well as ‘Available for Click & Collect’ messaging within product tiles on the PLP. The ‘add to cart’ functionality was also added to the PDP.
Users would then be able to navigate to the cart through the icon in the header, where they will view their summary and proceed to the checkout experience. At checkout, the user is able to enter their postcode in the ‘Click & Collect’ form, select their desired store and seamlessly move to payment.

Reflection

This project highlighted the importance of balancing brand compliance with usability when evolving a site into an e-commerce platform. It also gave me deeper insight into how critical it is to simplify the user journey, particularly for an older audience that may feel less comfortable with digital interactions. While we successfully integrated new features, I can deeply value the benefit of more extensive user testing early on to refine design choices further.
